Uses of Natural Gas
There are gases that are found naturally in the earth. These hydrocarbons are gotten from rocks in the underground. The uses of natural gas are many and diverse, depending on the environment they are used in. Actually, it can be said that there is no industry that does not require the use or service of natural gas.
How and Where Natural Gas is Used
There are many uses of natural gas, and here are some examples:
1.) Residential Use:
People’s homes need to have supply of the natural gas. This supply consists of about a fifth of the gas that is consumed. It is used for cooking, heating homes and water, for drying clothes and as source of light.
From the depots, the natural gas is supplied in the homes using pipelines just as water is supplied. Sometimes, it may be supplied using gas cylinders. This is mostly in the form of liquid that is refilled when it is used up. It has become one of the most used sources of energy in the home since it is very cheap to use it than it is to use other sources of energy.
2.) Commercial Use:
Another one of the uses of natural gas is for commercial buildings. This is the second largest user of natural gas produced. Their use is almost similar to that of the homes. It includes heating of the rooms especially during the winter season. It is also used whenever there is cooking and drying of clothes. This may include the motels and hospitals. When there is no electricity, it is used to light the rooms.
3.) Industrial Use:
Natural gas is used in the industries for a number of uses other than the normal use in the homes. It is used as a raw material in the manufacturing of metal, plastic, paper and food products. It is also used as a source of heat. This may be used in the welding of metal, melting of metal and other solids for further manufacturing. It is used in food processing industries to cooking things like cakes. It is used to burn waste products that cannot be disposed in other better ways in the industries.
4.) Electrical Use:
Electric power generation is one of the uses of natural gas. This gas is used to power the whole plant. Due its lower cost, many people are currently using the gas in their private or public power generation firms. It is also recommended since its by product is not harmful to the environment. Again, the excess heat that was produced can also be used in the production of more electricity.
Natural gas conversion produces the compressed natural gas that may be used on some types of cars. These cars are known to produce less of the green gases. It is also cheaper to use these types of cars than the normal diesel and gasoline cars. The uses of natural gas in the pipeline companies is to compress the gas that is being transported from one place to the other. It is also used to provide power to the firms transporting the other gases.
